چکیده

In WDM optical networks, design protection algorithms aim to maintain the connectivity between two nodes in the network following a failure by mapping a given virtual topology onto the physical topology so as to minimize the failure propagations in a network. In this article, a genetic algorithm based approach has been proposed for design protection in WDM optical networks. The proposed method has been compared with two other well-known design protection algorithms to establish its effectiveness.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Fault management in IP-over-WDM networks: WDM protection versus IP restoration

We consider an IP-over-WDM network in which network nodes employ optical crossconnects and IP routers. Nodes are connected by fibers to form a mesh topology. Any two IP routers in this network can be connected together by an all-optical wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) channel, called a lightpath, and the collection of lightpaths that are set up form a virtual topology. In this paper, we ...

Tree reconfiguration without lightpath interruption in WDM optical networks

Efficient reconfiguration of optical multicast trees in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks is required. Multimedia applications which consume a huge bandwidth, require multicasting. So, multicast concept is extended to optical networks to improve performance. Today, networks are facing many phenomena such as changes in the traffic model, failures, additions or deletions of some net...

Fault - Tolerant Design of Wavelength - Routed Optical

This paper considers optical networks which employ wavelength-routingswitches that enablethe establishmentof wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) channels, called lightpaths, between node-pairs. In such networks, the failure of a single ber link may cause the failure of several optical channels. Given a set of lightpaths, that may comprise of a logical topology, and alternate routing tables at...

Survivability in IP-over-WDM Networks: WDM Lightpath Protection versus IP LSP Protection

This article compares the performance of WDM lightpath protection and IP LSP protection schemes for IP-over-WDM networks. A mathematical formulation of the maximum throughput problem is presented and analytical expressions for recovery time are derived for both schemes. The throughputs and recovery times are analyzed and compared. Results show that the IP LSP protection scheme presents higher t...
